ABOUT
"Melancholy" is a twelve track conceptual album released on April 2nd, 2021. The album was solely created by Ginger Rodriguez, with the writing and production process starting from Rodriguez’s Junior Year of High School in 2018, and wrapping up while she was at University in March 2021. "Melancholy" acts as Rodriguez's sophomore album and the storyline of the album continues from the last track from her previous album, "I'm Crying In A Cool Way." Lyrically, this album discusses topics of identity, trauma, and Rodriguez's process of healing. Sonically, the album uses elements from pop, funk, psychedelia, R&B, and hip-hop. You hear this in Rodriguez's production as she blends modern pop with nostalgic 1990's sounding hip-hop whistles on top of early 2000's pop-punk drums, with elements from 1970s psychedelia and funk. Despite the numerous amount of styles and influences Rodriguez pulls from, the album maintains its focus as an Alternative Pop album chronicling Rodriguez's life as a young adult.
